Well-being and hygiene as well as maintaining a balance within the environment are all considered to be the most important aspects and challenges occurring in the human life. One of the fundamental aspects, effective in well-being of human-kind and other creatures, is food stuffs. Foods, containing efficient component(s) (microbiological or chemical), able to establish one or more certain health-related effect(s) in the body (such as, health promotion, reduction in the possible developing disease or even healing it), beyond usual nutritive effects expected of them, are defined "functional foods”. Now, there is a world-wide increasing demand for consumption of functional foods, which can be attributed to an increased awareness of consumers over the fact that these foods are useful for their health. For instance, functional foods occupied about 33 billion dollars of world market in 2000, which was followed by 74 and 167 billion dollars in 2005 and 2010, respectively.

Micro-organisms are one of the first aspects of life created on our vast and amazing earth. However, there are some certain micro-organisms harmful for human health; many of them not only are health-promoting, but also possessing the fruitful and fundamental effects on environment, which are called "useful micro-organisms”. Micro-organisms are playing several roles and presenting multiple advantages in bio-systems such as herbal, animal, human, agricultural and various industries. Probiotics are considered such useful micro-organisms, which present different health-related advantages by establishing and acting in digestive system of animals. Probiotic products are classified in the category of functional foods. Nowadays, not only science, in this regard, has become extensive and advanced, but also these food and medical products are available for public consumption. Probiotic products are capturing more than 60% of functional products market. According to world-wide importance of probiotics, and in the line with view of Iran in 1404 A. H, founding a scientific association, effective and efficient enough, was felt to be necessary, which could be active in aspects of pre-production (aspects related to microbiology and biotechnology), production, consumption (food technology, pharmaceutics, marketing and sale) and post-production (clinical and clinical-like), and could be in interaction with related national and international parts.
